Real user monitoring was an outdated feature within the Pingdom Toolbox and needed some love to support our users needs.
Real user monitoring, or Visitor insights help our users to see the impact of bad performance of their websites, and correlate load time with drop in visitors amongst other things. This was before Google analytics had similar features.
Through Interviews with users we created a feature for the future. Several phases of more advanced features were planned but sadly we never got further than phase 1 before business pivoted towards other parts of the product suite.
A large amount of the work in this project was data visualizations. To use the correct visualization to present the right data is a deep subject, and needs a lot of experience. We received praise for the work done, and the usage of this feature increased afterwards, which can point to the success of the project.
Tweet for a check
Free users of Pingdom were given a single uptime check. We wanted to allow them to work for another free check.
Initially they were suppose to tweet, and be given access to our public status page for that check, but the UX team wanted to do more and offer another check instead. The result? a massive reach for the Pingdom brand as several hundred thousand free users tweeted to improve their possibility to monitor websites around the world.
